At least 15 people were injured early Wednesday as the supporters of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party and its youth front Juba Dal locked in a clash in Sylhet over establishing supremacy in the area.

Local said that the supporters of the district BNP joint general secretary Ishtiaq Siddiqui locked in a clash with the supporters of Juba Dal activist Kabir Ahmed at Majortila area in the city at around 12:15am.


The hour-long clash left more than 15 supporters from both sides injured, they said.

Sylhet Metropolitan Police deputy commissioner Mohammad Sajib Khan said that the police, after receiving the information, rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control at around 1:15am.

Sylhet BNP general secretary Emdad Hossain Chowdhury said that they were trying to resolve the matter through discussion with the leaders of both rival groups.
