The scientists and staffs of Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission held a two-day sit-in and mass signature campaign for restoring autonomy in all the institutions under the BAEC, including the head office in Dhaka, concluded on Monday.

They also protested against the undue interference and authoritarian behaviour of the ministry, said a press release on Monday, adding that they would hold a two-day sit-in and wearing black badge programmes in April 29–30.

Their demands include the permanent appointment of a chairperson and members to fill vacant posts and form a full commission; an immediate end to ministerial interference in matters under the commission’s jurisdiction to preserve its autonomy; and ensure a respectful, research-friendly work environment, and restoration of the commission’s authority to approve and nominate scientists for higher education and training abroad.
