A housewife was allegedly killed by her husband at Khatuadanga village under Monirampur upazila in Jashore early Monday.
The victim, Swarup Jahan Sathi, 32, was the wife of Abdur Rashid Mintu of the same village.
According to the victim鈥檚 mother, Bhanu Bibi, Sathi was killed after she refused to hand over a large sum of money from her inherited property for her husband鈥檚 rice mill although she gave Tk 4 lakh to Mintu earlier.
After the killing, Mintu reportedly went into hiding. Police later recovered the body and sent it to Jashore General Hospital for autopsy.
Rezaul Islam, a member of Durbadanga Union Council, said that Mintu used to live with his second wife, Sathi, at his rice mill, while his first wife lived separately.
He also alleged that Mintu was a listed drug trader who had previously served time in jail.
Confirming the incident, Monirampur police station officer-in-charge Noor Mohammad Gazi said that no arrests had been made and no case was filed as of Monday in that connection.
