Veteran Bangladesh batter Mushfiqur Rahim has announced his retirement from one-day internationals following a lacklustre performance in the ongoing ICC Champions Trophy.

The 37-year old wicketkeeper-batter shared his decision in a social media post on Wednesday night.

Mushfiq’s decision comes amid ongoing discussions about the future of both him and fellow senior player Mahmudullah in Bangladesh's World Cup plans.

In recent days, BCB officials have repeatedly faced questions about whether the two veterans would remain part of the team's future strategy.

These discussions intensified as the Tigers failed to win a single match in the Champions Trophy in the UAE and Pakistan.

‘I am announcing my retirement from the ODI format as of today,’ Mushfiq wrote on his Facebook page.

Mushfiq, who debuted in 2006, played a record 274 ODIs for his country scoring 7,795 runs at an average of 36.42.

His tally includes nine tons and 49 half-centuries, making him one of Bangladesh's most accomplished batters in the format.

‘While our achievements may have been limited on a global level, one thing is certain: whenever I stepped onto the field for my country, I gave more than 100% with dedication and honesty,’ he added.Â
