The South Asian Football Federation has postponed this June's SAFF Championship until 2026, according to a media release issued by the federation on Thursday.Ìý

‘We have come to a decision to postpone the SAFF Championship to 2026,’ said the press release.


The South Asian football governing body also decided to organise the 15th edition of the biennial tournament in a home or away format for the first time.Ìý

The SAFF organisers and the event sponsor, SportFive, agreed on the issue, citing more arrangements from all stakeholders to make the competition flawless.Ìý

‘Our Member Associations and SportFive felt that more arrangements are needed to deliver the competition smoothly,’ added the press release.

With the FIFA World Cup 2026 approaching, the organisers have emphasised on the importance of establishing a suitable timeline and selecting the right venues for the event.

‘With 2026 being a FIFA World Cup year, enough attention has to be given to find an appropriate timeline and venue for the SAFF Championship,’ it said.
