Bangladesh Cricket Board announced a financial aid of Tk 15, 80,000 on Monday for FIDE Master Tahsin Tajwar Zia, son of late Grandmaster Ziaur Rahman for the forthcoming international chess tournaments.ÌýÌý

Ìý‘Tahsin is a very talented chess player and it is a pleasure to see him following in his legendary father’s footsteps,’ BCB president Faruque Ahmed said in a press release on Monday.


The 19-year-old has amassed a FIDE rating of 2,323 points and is aiming to become an International Master and GM.

Ìý‘We want to support his quest for further success and excellence as he pursues an IM title with an eye on becoming a GM in the future,’ he added.

‘The BCB is proud to be a part of Tahsin’s journey. We feel that this is also a way of expressing our deepest gratitude to GM Ziaur Rahman for his contribution to the game of chess and to our nation’s sports.’

Tahsin will be participating in three tournaments in 2025, starting with the World Junior U-20 Chess Championship in Petrovac, Montenegro, Asian Zonal Chess Championship in Sri Lanka and GM and IM events in Hungary, in a bid to boost his FIDE rating points.
