The Indian Council for Cultural Relations celebrated its 75th anniversary at the Indian Cultural Centre in Dhaka on Wednesday, said a press release.

The event comprised musical and dance performances including Kathak, Bharatanatyam, and Hindustani Classical Music by the students of Indira Gandhi Cultural Centre. Highlighting the deep-rooted cultural ties, the event also features a performance of Lai Haroba by members of the Bangladeshi Manipuri community from Sylhet.

At the event, deputy high commissioner of India to Bangladesh, Shri Pawan Badhe said, ‘The occasion not only celebrates ICCR’s legacy but also reflects the shared cultural heritage and enduring people-to-people ties between India and Bangladesh.’

Since its inception in 1950, the ICCR has played a pivotal role in promoting cultural relations through artistic, educational, and cultural initiatives.

As part of this mission, the Indira Gandhi Cultural Centre at Dhanmondi was established in Dhaka in 2011 and the Indian Cultural Centre at Gulshan in 2021.

Over the years, the Centre has emerged as a vibrant hub for cultural exchange, hosting a diverse array of programmes—from classical dance and music performances to literary events, exhibitions, film screening and workshops.

Beyond cultural programmes, ICCR’s engagement extends to educational exchange through its prestigious scholarship programmes. Each year, over 500 scholarships are awarded to Bangladeshi students to pursue higher education in India’s leading institutions—an initiative that continues to strengthen the academic and people-to-people bonds between the two countries, said the release.
