Fiction writer Novera Hossain thinks that tough decisions pave the way for better times.
‘Nothing in our life lasts forever. Tough decisions pave the way to better times. I would like to say that people should be strong and keep going as it will be worth it in the end,’ Novera Hossain told ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ·.
Authors’ clarity of vision helps them to portray the inner realm of people, the writer says, adding that to be disinterested to portray a character in her or his works is also crucial.
‘I would like to mention that after savoring a character, subject or context, I delve into it and then present it to the reader,’ mentions Novera.Â
The unpleasant conditions that exist in a particular situation often involve uncovering the negative aspects, which knock people down for a while. But after the time of bereavement is over, people move forward with a greater understanding and respect for life, mentions Novera.
Novera started writing fiction way back in the early 2000. Her literary works include Harano Dokan El Dorado, Barud Lobaner Gandha, Jole Doa Chand, Joulusi Bewa, Antargata Karabi and Keu Jante Chayni.
She also spoke about her recently published collection of stories titled Adrishya Setu, which contains 13 stories depicting social anomalies, plight of the marginalised, Covid crisis and others.
In the two stories of the book, the writer focuses on conjugal life, love and extramarital affairs.
‘Many couples used to live in a loveless marriage due to children, financial reasons, or simply the practicality of living under one roof. We should be aware that a marriage without love hampers the growth of people as they suffer from loneliness, decreased self-esteem, unhappiness and anger,’ Novera says.
She also sheds light on the jute mill workers’ anguish in a story of the book. ‘Being a member of the working class can often mean facing financial insecurity, limited job opportunities and job insecurity, lack of access to quality healthcare and education,’ she says, adding that the lower middle class is a complex socio-political and cultural compound, which needs close and systematic analysis.
Speaking about her upcoming ventures, Novera Hossain concludes, ‘I have been working on a commemorative volume on the late poet Shamim Kabir, which will be published in the next year.’
