In memory of eminent artist SM Sultan, a five-day group art exhibition titled Insight is under way at Shala Neighbourhood Art Space at Gulshan in the capital.

Twenty-one contemporary artists are displaying their artworks at the exhibition.


To mark the birth centenary of SM Sultan, Tanmatra Artist Group organised the event to explore how Sultan has influenced contemporary artists and introduce artist SM Sultan to the new generation.聽聽聽

Aiming to make a positive impact on neighbourhoods and people, the exhibition is displaying 40 artworks including sculptures, watercolour, prints and paintings created with acrylic and oil on board and canvas.

Curated by Md Ziaul Hoque Raju, the exhibition features artworks of contemporary artists, including Preema Nazia Andaleeb, AH Dhali Tomal, Sultanul Islam, Sourav Chowdhury, Rubina Nargis, Mahfuza Beauty, Sadia Khalid Reeti, Manashi Banik, SM Mizanur Rahman, Tanha Zafreen and Avijit Kanti Das.聽

Md Bazlur Rashid鈥檚 oil on board painting titled Life Span shows four stages of life through colourful abstraction.

Manashi Banik鈥檚 acrylic on wooden board painting titled Women shows a collage of oriental elements through a contemporary approach to depict brides, the marriage ceremony, and motherhood, while she uses traditional motifs including tepa putul, clay toys and patachitra in her artworks.聽

Sabiha Nasrin鈥檚 acrylic on canvas titled Kather Putul SM Sultan shows SM Sultan and his characters on canvas.聽

Sculptor Avijit Kanti Das has created a portrait of artist SM Sultan by clay which is also displayed at the exhibition.

Tanmatra artist group is dedicated to promoting contemporary art and providing a platform to promising new artists to showcase their innovative works.

On November 12, Tareque Masud directed documentary film Adam Surat on artist SM Sultan and Ziaul Hoque Raju directed documentary film on metal craft titled Fossil will be screened at the venue.聽

The exhibition was inaugurated on November 8 and will conclude on Tuesday.
