Bangladesh Nationalist Party acting chairperson Tarique Rahman claimed on Tuesday that conspiracy was not stopped and a conspiracy was going on somewhere.
Tarique said, ‘We were talking about a conspiracy that has not stopped. You (party leaders) must be aware of the news of the last few days.’
He came up with the warning while addressing virtually a programme titled ‘31 points for state structure repair and public involvement’ organised by BNP at the Institute of Diploma Engineers, Bangladesh.
‘You (party leaders) must be able to understand that a conspiracy is going on somewhere. So people should be made aware. We have to be with the people,’ he said.
Tarique also said ‘if there is no political and economic freedom of the people, then whatever reforms we do will not be useful.
‘Accountability must be ensured to the people, and for this, the right to vote must be ensured in the country, he said, adding that the accountability is ensured through voting rights in all democratic countries in the world.’Â
He said, ‹Thousands of our party people have been victims of enforced disappearance, murder for the right of people to speak, political rights, voting rights, and more than 60 lakh false cases were filed against our leaders and activists.’
‘We are fighting to establish the voting right, the right to speak for the people of Bangladesh. So we have to establish the rights at any cost by making people aware,’ he added.
Referring to the BNP’s 31-point reform proposals, Tarique Rahman said, ‹BNP is a party that has worked for the development of the country and people›s destiny in the past, but it was successful in many cases while it was not successful in some cases.’
‘Many have said that if there is an impartial election in Bangladesh, if the party can be united, if it can work according to the people›s wishes, BNP will form the government in the coming days,’ he said.
He said, ‘Our 31 points are the outline of how we will run the country in the future. It was originally 27 points, but later, the 27 points increased to 31 following the opinions of all the parties who participated in our simultaneous movement against the anti-autocratic movement.’
‘So, the 31 points are not only of the BNP; it is a collective thinking of all parties that believe in democracy,’ he added.
Tarique said, ‹Many are talking about a lot of reforms, but BNP has been thinking about the nation for a long time. When no one thought about it, BNP presented 27 points and then 31 points to the people of the country.’
‘We have repeatedly said that if good proposals come, that can be included with 31 points,’ he added.
The BNP›s top leader also directed the party’s leaders and activists for reaching the BNP’s 31 points to all the people of the country.
Tarique, who is now staying in London, also urged the party leaders and activists not to use the words ‘Deshanayak’ or ‘Rashtranayak’ before his name.
He also talked at the event about improving the quality of primary education, combating corruption, and employment of the jobless.
