Bangladesh Nationalist Party’s voluntary wing Swechchhasebak Dal has expelled one of its leaders for assaulting Md Nezam Uddin, a police inspector and former officer-in-charge of Kotwali police in Chattogram.

The decision came on Tuesday through a press release signed by Swechchhasebak Dal’s office secretary, M Abu Bakkar Raju.


According to the statement, the expulsion decision was made by Swechhasebak Dal’s Chattogram city president H M Rashid Khan and general secretary Belayet Hossain Bulu.Ìý

The press release said, ‘Shahidul Islam Shahid, the member secretary of the Chawk Bazar thana unit Swechchhasebak Dal, has been expelled from all party positions, including his primary membership, due to specific allegations of involvement in activities contrary to party discipline.’Ìý

On Monday at around 2.30pm, police inspector Nezam Uddin went to pick up his son from a school in the Panchlaish residential area.

As he was getting out of his car in front of the passport office, activists of theÌý Swechchhasebak Dal, led by Shahidul Islam Shahid, member secretary to the Swechchhasebak Dal of the Chawk Bazar area, surrounded him, citing past grievances of alleged abuse during his tenure as OC.

At one stage, they physically assaulted him, tore his shirt, and expressed anger over alleged mistreatment they had faced under his jurisdiction.

A video circulating on social media showed Swechchhasebak Dal activists grabbing Nezam Uddin by the collar and dragging him. Some individuals were also seen physically assaulting the former OC on the video.

Md Nezam Uddin previously served as OC of Kotwali, Bakalia, and Sadarghat police stations under Chattogram Metropolitan Police.

He has recently been posted as the OC to the Patiya police station in Chattogram before being transferred to Cumilla, where he now serves as an inspector in the Criminal Investigation Department.
